The Hormone Foundation
Rating: (3 stars)
Review:
The Hormone Foundation is a nonprofit consumer health organization affiliated with the Endocrine Society. It's web site incorporates a selection of pages that provide reliable information about the diagnosis and treatment of a range of common endocrine disorders. Each page includes lists of links to major professional organizations and patient advocacy groups along with printable versions of selected patient-oriented articles provided by the UpToDate medical education service. This site includes a link to ENDO Trials, a service that provides a comprehensive listing of open clinical trials enrolling patients with endocrine disorders.

The ATA patient resource pages are designed to provide up-to-date information for thyroid patients and their families.

ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association
Rating: (3 stars)
Review:
The ThyCa website aims to educate thyroid cancer patients, link them with knowledgeable health professions, and facilitate communication between patients and their doctors. The site offers excellent general information about thyroid cancer--its diagnosis, staging, and initial and long-term management. It also provides several particularly useful features, including a low-iodine cookbook, access to both patient-to-patient and group support networks, and information about the Associaved,'s excellent educational conferences.

Mayo Clinic Health Oasis
Rating: (3 stars)
Review:
Mayo Clinic Health Oasis is an Internet source of reliable health information from the Mayo Clinic. An editorial board of the Mayo staff selects health topics and enlists specialists to be expert sources for each article. The articles are dated, and the Web site is updated weekly. This is a good source for up-to-date, reliable information about the thyroid gland and its various diseases. Search a topic, such as "thyroid cancer" or "radioactive iodine treatment" and find a list of site entries addressing that topic. The articles have good illustrations, many of which are in color.

Thyroid Foundation of America
Rating: (2 stars)
Review:
The Thyroid Foundation of America is a nonprofit organization created in 1985 to provide health education and support for thyroid patients and health professionals and increase public awareness about thyroid problems. It prepares educational brochures and a quarterly newsletter for thyroid patients and health professionals with up-to-date reviews of important thyroid topics, reports on TFA Chapter activities, and notices about books and meetings of interest to thyroid patients and health professionals. Its Web site includes a glossary of thyroid-related terms and information on a wide variety of topics under ThyroNotes.

The Thyroid Foundation of Canada/La Fondation Canadienne de la Thyroid
Rating: (3 stars)
Review:
The Thyroid Foundation of Canada/La Fondation Canadienne de la Thyroid maintains a Web site that provides up-to-date information for thyroid patients and their families, including those with thyroid cancer. It also maintains links to other health and thyroid-related organizations and Internet resources. Two of the site's "Health Guides" provide information about Thyroid Nodules and Thyroid Cancer, including Types of Thyroid Cancer, Radiation Exposure, Treatment, Radioactive Iodine Therapy, External Radiation Therapy, and Post-Treatment Check-Ups. Questions and Answers, an international directory of thyroid-related organizations, and articles reprinted from Thyrobulletin, the Foundation's quarterly. The French version of the site makes it an important resource for French-speaking patients and families.

ThyroLink
Rating: (2 stars)
Review:
ThyroLink, maintained by the European pharmaceutical company Merck KgaA, is a Web site that pulls together material about the thyroid diseases from all over the World Wide Web. Thyrolink can facilitate searching because it has linked areas such as patient information from a variety of Web sites onto its Web page. It also connects to thyroid/endocrine journals, Medline and several online bookstores.
