What kind of treatment is required for these conditions after surgery?

The recommended treatment for thyroid cancer after surgery depends in large part on the type of cancer that has been identified and the stage that a cancer has reached by the time it is diagnosed. The evaluation to determine what type of cancer is present is carried out by a physician who specializes in the field of pathology. If a cancer is considered to be differentiated, a patient may undergo further treatment with radioactive iodine therapy in an effort to destroy any remaining sites of cancer. If a cancer has reached an advanced stage and has spread to other parts of the body by the time it is diagnosed, a patient may undergo further treatment with surgery or external beam radiation therapy in an effort to limit any further spread of cancer. All patients with thyroid cancer who have undergone surgery should receive thyroid hormone treatment in addition to any other forms of therapy that may be considered.
