What are malignant results?

Malignant results from a fine needle aspiration biopsy indicate that the sample is probably (95%) thyroid cancer. This judgment is based on features of individual cells and patterns formed by clusters of cells that are abnormal in comparison to normal thyroid tissue. Specific types of thyroid cancer may be recognized from a fine needle aspiration biopsy sample, including papillary thyroid cancer, medullary thyroid cancer, anaplastic thyroid cancer, and thyroid lymphoma.
